John Ducie is the gardens guide. He was founder of both The Tree Council of Ireland and The Irish Garden Plant Society. He has an Hons B. Bus (Entrepreneurship) degree with a Post Graduate Certificate in Sustainable Development and is a Failte Ireland Approved (Badged) National Tourist Guide and Manager. He is a part time tutor at the Garden Design Academy of Ireland.
He holds the NUI Certificate in Genealogy and Family History and graduated from The National Botanic Gardens in 1977. He is a Failte Ireland national tour guide specializing in garden tours and genealogy. He is also available for tourism consultancy and is licensed to drive both limousines and minibuses. He is a former vice chair of An Taisce & chaired for ten years The Heritage Gardens and Designed Landscapes Committee.
He has a life long love of Powerscourt and remembers meeting the 9th Viscount who sold the estate to the current owners the Slazengers and has know both families since that time. He was in the house before the disasterous fire of 1974 and is currently engaged in researching a history of the gardens and their creation for publication.
